Supporting Overgate Hospice
Since 1981, Overgate Hospice has been providing much-needed palliative care to those with life-limiting illnesses in Calderdale and has supported thousands of patients and their families through the most difficult of times.
As an independent and local charity, the continuation of its invaluable work relies upon the goodwill of the many people who make donations, take part in fundraising events and give their time freely.
As a firm of solicitors that has been providing legal services to the local community since 1886, one of the most obvious ways we can support local charities like Overgate Hospice, is by providing pro bono legal work. This includes negotiating leases for various shops across Calderdale.
However, what we do for Overgate doesn’t stop there…
As one of the best-known charities in the area, Overgate Hospice runs many fund-raising events, which like so many others, we regularly look to support. These include the Midnight Walk and Colour Run.
Members of the Wilkinson Woodward team also regularly attend the Overgate Hospice Ladies' Night and the Hospice’s Annual Charity Golf Days. This year, at Bradley Park Golf Club, the Wilkinson Woodward team managed to surprise everyone (including themselves!) by claiming second place.
Another way we try to support the Hospice is with the Wilkinson Woodward Annual Quiz Night, which over the last few years has been held in aid of the charity. This year’s event, at the Shay Stadium, was attended by 144 people and included a pie and pea supper, as well as a raffle. In total £1,400 was raised. (We’d like to take the opportunity to also thank again the many businesses and individuals that donated prizes for the raffle).
Our Family Law Solicitor, Clive Masters commented, “We are proud to provide pro bono legal services to Overgate Hospice. Supporting their mission and helping them continue their valuable work is an honour. Myself and my colleague James Hodgson host the Wilkinson Woodward Annual Charity Quiz and it’s always wonderful to see so many people come together to raise money for such an amazing local cause.”
Wilkinson Woodward Managing Director, Maureen Cawthorn added, “The work Overgate Hospice does in the local community is incredible. So many of us have been touched by people affected by cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, it’s why we all want to do as much as we can to support the charity.”
Louise Iredale, the Corporate Fundraiser at Overgate Hospice said “We would like to thank everyone at Wilkinson Woodward for their fundraising efforts over the years. Your contributions to the charity are appreciated and help to fund our vital work”
Local charities play a vital role in supporting our local communities. At Wilkinson Woodward, we firmly believe that by offering charities complementary legal services, we can improve local community access to the essential services these organisations provide.
Overgate Hospice runs charity shops in Elland, Sowerby Bridge, Hebden Bridge, Todmorden, Illingworth, Ovenden, Halifax, King Cross, West Vale, Brighouse and Hipperholme, selling donated pre-loved goods.
