Meet the Property Team: Emma Gregory

Conventional wisdom suggests that the ideal career path is linear – a ladder to be climbed with a single-minded focus to get to the top. For most people, however, the road takes a few twists and turns.

This is true for Emma Gregory, Legal Assistant at Wilkinson Woodward’s Brighouse branch. Emma started her career as an office junior at Stephen Cox Licensed Conveyancers after finishing school, where she worked for 12 years. After being made redundant, she joined Wilkinson Woodward’s Family Department in Halifax as secretary in 2010, before moving to the Brighouse office in 2014.

Happily offering support in the Family Department, Emma was left afloat when the colleague she worked for sadly passed away. However, she soon switched to a support role within the Conveyancing Department.

Employee development is a core part of at Wilkinson Woodward’s culture, with the firm focused not only on ensuring that employees stay up to date on industry best practices and learn new skills, but also that they receive the necessary encouragement and guidance in terms of career progression. In fact, it has built an enviable reputation for encouraging staff development, enabling those who wish to progress to do so by providing relevant training opportunities to ensure that they become experts in their field.

Emma currently works alongside Scott Forster-Darwin in the Conveyancing Department. Progress her career has been mentioned over the years, but recent encouragement from Director Shelley McLachlan has encouraged Emma to pursue a career as a Licensed Conveyancer – with the full support and guidance of the Wilkinson Woodward team. She was initially reluctant as she was raising two daughters and didn’t want to take on the additional responsibility. However, with her daughters now adults and away at University, Emma jumped at the chance when it recently presented itself again. She is currently completing her conveyancer training and is working towards becoming a licensed conveyancer.

“Wilkinson Woodward prioritises staff development, regardless of where you are on your career journey, or how long it takes you to reach your goal,” says Emma. “Throughout my time here, Andrew, Shelley and the rest of the team have not only encouraged my development but have also ensured I have access to a variety of learning and development opportunities.”
