Meet the team behind Calderdale's award-winning Next Step Trust
We’ve been part of our community for an awfully long time (over 130 years!) and are very proud to support some brilliant local charities who work for the communities of Calderdale and Kirklees.
In the run up to Christmas, we’re devoting our blog to four important local charities – today it’s time to give a pre-Christmas pat on the back to the amazing folks at The Next Step Trust.
Based in Calderdale, the Next Step Trust supports over forty adults with learning disabilities and/or complex health needs.
Established in 2006 by just a handful of parents, today the Trust manages four centres where it provides specialist support and facilities to young people and their families/carers.
In October 2016, the Trust achieved a huge milestone – the purchase of its first respite care facility. This wheelchair friendly bungalow in Ripponden offers young adults specialist care, giving their parents, grandparents and guardians a vital break from their demanding, round-the-clock roles as carers.
Earlier this year, in recognition of the opening of the respite facility, the Trust was awarded “Breakthrough Charity of the Year” at the 2017 Community Spirit Awards.
For the past ten years, we’ve worked closely with the Trust, supporting their work by handling legal work relating to the Trust’s properties, staff and clients on a pro bono basis. As Managing Director of Wilkinson Woodward, I've been a member of the Next Step Board of Trustees since 2008.
